Dog Attacks Child in Linfield [updated]

Child transported to St. Christopher's by helicopter; dog turned over to animal control

Emergency medical services and animal control personnel responded to an address on Sacco Road in the Linfield section of Limerick at about 6:20 p.m. Friday evening after a 4-year-old boy was attacked by a Rottweiler dog. Emergency dispatch radio reports described the child as "breathing normally" but "bleeding heavily" from wounds to his arm and leg.

The Limerick Police Department said Saturday on its Facebook page that the dog "lunged" at the boy as he passed on his bike. According to the police, the boy's parents were talking to the dog's owners when the attack took place. The dog's owners turned it over to animal control officials.

A medical helicopter landed on a softball field at the nearby Linfield Sports Park to transport the child to a hospital. A game in progress was suspended as the helicopter landed.
