Early Sunday Police Chase Results in Crash

Royersford Police chased down a traffic law offender after he tried to flee.

Jeffrey D. Metz, 23 of Pottstown, has charges pending from after an early Sunday morning incident. Metz allegedly ran a red light and fled from police, eventually crashing his car.

Royersford Police Chief Kevin Schurr confirmed the May 13, 2:50 a.m. pursuit, which began at Lewis Road and Walnut Street in Royersford. Patrolling the area, Royersford Police witnessed Metz operating his 2005 Dodge Neon traveling north on Lewis Road. The report said Metz then disregarded a "steady red traffic signal" at Lewis and Walnut.

"Police attempted to stop vehicle in question and it proceeded on various streets in the borough at a high rate of speed," the report continued. "[The] vehicle ended up travelling [north] onto 5th Avenue proceeding into Limerick Township."

In the area of Galie Way, the report stated, Metz lost control of his car and struck a curb. His vehicle became disabled in a "field area." Metz then allegedly exited his vehicle and fled on foot. Police said the car was impounded and identified the operator as Metz.

The incident is still being investigated, according to the department. Various charges are pending against Metz.
