Local Runners OK After Boston Marathon Explosions

Early reports speculated that bombs may have been set deliberately.

Several local runners appear to be safe and sound following a terrifying day at the Boston Marathon. 

Just before 3 p.m., two explosions occurred near the marathon finish line on Boylston Street in Boston.

At last count, 3 people, including an eight-year-old boy, were killed and more than 120 people were injured. Hospitals in the area were flooded with injured, some with amputations.

Early reports indicated the explosions were deliberate, although federal, state and local authorities are still investigating. 

Limerick-Royersford-Spring City Patch knows of four local runners that were in the race today.

  • From Royersford: Leslie Randall and Doug Symonds (listed as a resident of Collegeville on the race website)
  • From Limerick: Donald Mack and Elisha Rios

Reader Cathleen Bach commented on our Facebook page that Doug Symonds posted on his page that he was safe.

We have heard from reader Wendy Robinson Williams that Donald Mack is safe. Mack had finished the race before the explosions happened, according to his wife Lisa.

Pottstown Patch reader Michelle Willicombe posted that Leslie Randall is safe and finished the race 20 minutes before the incident. Other people have also confirmed that Randall is safe. 

Marathon records indicate that Elisha Rios finished the race an hour prior to the explosions.
