Fire guts Royersford apartment

Two occupants escaped unhurt from the 2nd floor fire on Main Street.

A fire heavily damaged a second floor apartment above at 333 Main Street in Royersford this morning.

One of the apartment's two residents, a mother and her adult son, woke to the sight of flames in the dwelling area and awakened the other resident, according to borough fire chief Gary Wezel.

Wezel said a preliminary investigation determined that the fire was accidental in nature and had started in the living room, which was located at the front of the apartment. According to Wezel, the first floor, where the business is located, was relatively untouched by the fire and only suffered some water damage from the firefighting effort.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for a possible broken wrist, Wezel said.
