Fire Marshal: Dale Dr. Fire Deemed Accidental

A note from the Upper Providence Fire Marshal about last week's fire

Police and fire crews spent about two hours at the scene of a house fire on Dale Drive in Upper Providence Township last week, and Fire Marshal Joshua Overholt led the investigation to determine the fire's cause.

Early on, it was determiend that the fire started in the shrubs in front of the house and then caught the actual structure on fire; however, Overholt did not know the origin of the fire by the time it was cleaned up.

He issued a statement to Patch on Wednesday.

"The Dale Drive fire’s origin has been classified as 'accidental' with mulch deterioration suspected of spontaneous ignition," he said. "This determination was based on the examination of other mulched areas and their current conditions, occupant interviews and the review of other ignition possibilities in the area."
