Fire on Kline Road Damages Shed, Yard Property

The home and a garage were not damaged, but a shed and some items in the yard were.

A Tuesday afternoon fire burned a property on Kline Road in Upper Providence Township, destroying two small sheds in the yard and damaging a wood pile and other items.

The emergency call came in at approximately 3:40 p.m. Several area residents reported seeing black smoke in the air.

At least eight fire companies responded, including five tankers, along with several ambulance crews.

Upper Providence fire marshal Joshua Overholt said that the homeowner told firefighters that he was burning trash in a barrel. Overholt could not confirm if the barrel tipped over or if the wind blew burning debris into the yard.

Overholt said that Upper Providence Township ordinances prohibit open burning. Additionally, the area is also under a fire danger warning due to dry ground and windy conditions. However, Overholt said the township is not planning on issuing citations.

"Unfortunately, this is why burning is banned," Overholt said. "These accidents happen."
