"Good samaritan" aids arrest, vanishes

Spring City police are trying to locate an unidentified man who assisted them in the apprehension of a suspect last Friday evening.

The Spring City police are seeking an unidentified man who disappeared following a foot chase near the borough's bridge to Royersford on Friday.

Not to arrest him—to reward him.

At about 5:00pm Friday, officers responded to the vicinity of the bridge following a request for assistance from the Royersford Police Department, according to Spring City Police Chief Deidre Sherman.

Officer Elliott Dice of the Spring City Police and Officer Brandon Unruh of the East Vincent Police department were looking for a man involved in a domestic dispute in Royersford who had reportedly fled in the direction of Spring City.

The suspect crossed the bridge on foot, observed the officers walking towards him, doubled back towards Royersford, and saw a Royersford police cruiser approaching his position. He then turned back towards Spring City and attempted to elude the officers who were on foot.

It was then that the unidentified "good samaritan" stepped out of his vehicle, which was stopped in traffic near the bridge, and grabbed the suspect.  Officers Dice and Unruh arrived quickly and took him into custody.  He was later released to Royersford police for processing, Sherman said.

"By the time [Dice and Unruh] had 'cuffed and stuffed' [the suspect], he was gone," Sherman said, referring to the man who had assisted the arrest.

"We owe him a huge debt of gratitude. He made our job a lot easier," Sherman said.

Police have no description of the man aside from his vehicle, which was believed to be a silver or white truck.
