Limerick Man Pleads Guilty to Role in Burglary Spree

Joseph Anthony Samsel Jr. admitted to participating in residential burglaries that netted more than $100,000 in stolen property.

According to the Pottstown Mercury, Joseph Anthony Samsel Jr., 25, of the 100 block of West Ridge Pike, pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary in connection with a string of 21 break-ins from July 2012 to January 2013. 

Specifically, Samsel admitted to taking part, with Benner, in burglaries along Reller Road in Salford, during which jewelry valued at $5,000 was stolen, and along Meng Road in Lower Frederick, during which jewelry and cash totaling more $2,000 was reported stolen, reported the Mercury. In all, a reported $100,000 was stolen in jewelry and other items.

As previously posted on Patch, the string of burglaries took place over a period of seven months leading to the arrest of another Limerick resident Michael Benner Jr., 28, and Douglassville Resident Philip Becker, 27.

According to the article, the burglaries mainly took place in Montgomery County but two were in Berks County. Homes in Upper Salford, Salford, Lower Frederick, Limerick, New Hanover, Lower Providence, and Roberson townships were burglarize.

Samsel’s sentencing has been deferred for further evaluations and investigations.  However, his charges could lead to a possible maximum sentence of 40-80 years in prison.
