Limerick Officer Awarded for Breaking Burglary Cases

Officer Brian Tyler was honored for his work in apprehending an alleged serial burglar.

The Delaware Valley Association of Professional Police Officials awarded Limerick police officer Brian Tyler their Legion of Excellence medal at a ceremony the week of April 15, according to a post on the Limerick Police Department's Facebook page. 

The Legion of Excellence honors officers for outstanding police work. Tyler was honored with the award due to his work cracking a case of six burglaries in Limerick and Upper Providence Townships. 

Tyler was instrumental in the . As Patch reported in July 2012, Tyler noticed Murray walking along Royersford Road carrying a backpack. Aware of the burglary case, Tyler stopped Murray, but was unable to connect him to the crimes at that time.

Tyler continued surveillance of Murray the same day, and was able to arrest Murray as he allegedly tried to hide stolen items in the woods near his home. 

Tyler's police work led to Murray's arrest and the arrest of a second man, Joseph Love, in the same case, according to a commendation presented to Tyler in August 2012.

The Legion of Excellence award was presented to Tyler by Chief Michael Murphy, the police chief of Warminster and president of the Delaware Valley Association of Professional Police Officials.
