FBI Recognizes Limerick Police for Robbery Arrest

Two members of the Limerick Police Department were recognized for their work relating to Nov. 2012 robbery.

FBI Director James B. Convey recognized three members of the Limerick Township Police Department for their work on a November 2012 robbery of Ultra Diamonds in Limerick.

According to Limerick police on Facebook, Det. Ernie Morris and Sgt. Matt Daywalt received letters of recognition by Supervisory Special Agent James Tarasca on Dec. 19 at the Federal Building in Philadelphia after catching three men who robbed a Limerick jewelry store..

On Nov. 3, 2012, Willie Hawkins Smith, Brian Marquise Sheed and Amin Abdur-Rahe Shabazz, all 21 and of Philadelphia, allegedly stole 12 wristwatches with a value of nearly $65,000 from Ultra Diamonds in the Philadelphia Premium Outlets.

After a brief chase, Limerick Police caught the trio and recovered the jewelry.

According to the indictment, the alleged robbers used both actual and threatened force by brandishing and swinging a sledgehammer to threaten store employees and destroy property.

Since Ultra Diamonds is an interstate chain headquartered in Chicago, the FBI was tasked to handle the investigation.
