Between the hours of 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. late Friday night, reports of a loose criminal flooded the Royersford and Upper Providence area. Allegedly, police, SWAT and helicopters surrounded Providence Forge, Orchard Court, Mingo Road, Lewis Road and Spring-Ford High School/Middle School in search of the man, who was reportedly seen wearing a black hoodie.

As of 2:15 a.m., active units involved included: "Goodwill Pottstown MICU, K-9 Unit on Foot, Helicopter, Royersford PD, Limerick PD, Upper Pottsgrove PD, Upper Providence PD, Limerick PD, and Collegeville PD...with possibly swat..." according to our own field reporter Molly Lozinak.

Local residents reported no official indication of "danger" from their municipalities, although some reported that officers told them to stay inside.

"Called police," said Steven Egbert on Facebook. "All they would say was there is police activity going on.... Nothing else."

Many people expressed a feeling of not being informed by their local municpalities and were reluctant to go to bed.

"They absolutely should have used their resources to advise the citizens of the immediate surrounding areas!" Cindy Bevan-Wilson posted on Facebook. "That is why we have the call system. It would have effectively alerted the residents and perhaps it would have even resulted in an accurate lead."

The police activity moved to Orchard Court between 1:30 and 2 a.m., where Lozinak was on scene reporting "it's still an active incident with an incredible amount of law enforcement presence."

Patch has yet to hear anything further on the incident and cannot get a hold of police. We encourage readers to share what they know on our Facebook page and send any pictures to Kevin.Haslam@patch.com. We will try to have a clear, concise and confirmed update by morning.
