Microwave Fire in Rofo Under Control

No injuries to report in 6th Avenue, Royersford, microwave fire.

Emergency responders were on scene of a residential fire on Tuesday night. Officer Tom Godin reported a microwave caught fire inside the residence at 320 S. 6th Ave., which eventually extended to the wooden cabinets above.

Godin arrived on scene at 8:50 p.m. and evacuated the sole occupant of the house, a female homeowner. Responders from followed and put the fire out with a water fire extinguisher. and fire companies followed to aid with ventilation and overhaul.

The resident, according to her report to Godin, was using her oven to cook shrimp; however the timer on the oven unit was not working. So, the resident claimed she used the timer on the microwave and the fire ignited via unknown causes.

Godin could not confirm that the microwave itself was on, or if the timer was only being used. Further, Godin reported the fire chief would conduct an investigation to possibly determine the state of the microwave prior to the fire.

The woman was evacuated with no injuries according to Godin. S. 6th Avenue was closed between Washington and Arch. Godin said the road should be opened back up to traffic by 9:45 p.m.
