One Hurt in Lewis Road Accident

Transported from scene by medical helicopter

One man was hurt late Wednesday morning when a car driven by his friend struck his motorcycle from behind on N. Lewis Road in Limerick.

The accident took place at about 11:20 a.m just west of the intersection with King and Country Club Roads. Police at the scene said the driver of the motorcycle had come to a stop in the middle of the road.

The impact of the crash wedged the motorcycle, a yellow Yamaha, under the front of the car, a gold-colored early 2000s Honda Civic. The Civic's front end was suspended in the air at the crash scene.

Despite the apparent severity of the crash, an eyewitness said the injured man was able to get up in the moments following the crash and move to a lawn on the south side of the road, where he lay down. He was evacuated from the scene by medical helicopter.

John Hagan, of Royersford, was driving eastbound towards Royersford when the crash occurred in the westbound lane. He pulled his silver Pontiac off the road near the corner of King Road and went to assist the drivers.

"They're friends, they were going to the outlet mall together," said Hagan. Hagan also volunteered to give the driver of the Honda Civic a ride after the vehicles were removed from the scene.

The driver of the motorcycle was said to be responsive and using his cell phone before he was transported.

Lewis Road was reopened to traffic just before noon.
