Overturned Truck Snarls 422

Dump truck was reportedly carrying 21 tons of ash

An overturned dump truck snarled traffic on Route 422 near the interchange with Route 724 on Wednesday morning, causing a traffic backup that lasted through the morning rush hour and into midday.

The Pottstown Mercury reported that the crash took place before 8:00 a.m. and that the truck had been carrying 21 tons of ash from Conshohocken to Colebrookdale in Berks County.

The truck had been uprighted and was resting in the shoulder of the roadway's westbound lanes by 11:30 a.m., but emergency crews remained at the scene and westbound traffic was still reduced to one lane on the roadway.

Some Patch readers reported heavy traffic on secondary local roadways such as Schuylkill Road (Rt. 724) and Ridge Pike in Limerick and Lower Pottsgrove.

These dump trucks FLY on 422 all the time. It's scarey. Plus all the rocks and whatever else is in the back of them spraying all over the cars that are stuck behind them in the left lane b/c they won't get over. They shouldn't EVER be in the left lane. They shouldn't be able to go 70 mph either. I really don't think these guys care about anyone else. So maybe this will be a lesson for the rest of them jerks that do this b/c they all do.

Well, due to the economy trucks are being paid by the ton and a driver only makes a percentage of each ton being hauled. Am I against bad driving? Yes. Am I against these guys making an honest living?no. If you get so much stuff on your car from the back of a truck it means your tailgating it. 500ft distance is about minimum . Pa. State law is to tarp the load and they do (98% anyway). Why don't we bring up the speed of traffic on the highway first, before we bash the truck driver? Cars do 80mph routinely, 65-70 is normal on 422. Do i drive truck? Nope i just watch all the idiots in cars cut them off and ignore motorcycles too.

Shenna, ALL is a small word that paints a very big swath. My concern would be more with whether or not any one was hurt and not the inconvenience of being stuck in traffic.

there are safe truck driver's and not so safe and usually all are fairly good but on the other hand if you could observe alot of them on 422 you would understand why they get in accidents- most of them are almost flying and alot tailgate- (NOT ALL)- Now getting to the cars just about everyone speed and tailgate- the speed is 55 but maybe 1 in a thousand do it- 5 over is not bad but most are doing 70 or 80 and they think with these little coffins they can weave in and out with no problems- If you have to speed how about leaving a little early from where you are coming to where you go- so many stupid driver's
