Philadelphia Residents Allegedly Steal More than $1,000 in Merchandise from Outlets

On April 19 at about 9:04 p.m., responding Officer Chris Wienczek was dispatched for a retail theft in progress at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets. Upon arrival, Wienczek reported he saw a black male and black female in the parking lot. Wienczek said the couple matched the description given to him by a assistant manager.

Allegedly, as Wienczek approached the Bonneville that the two were getting in, the man threw his bag in the back seat of the car, while the woman put hers underneath the car parked next to theirs.

The reporting party positively identified the two as the alleged thieves and they were subsequently arrested to Pottstown Police Department. The man was identified as Sharem Nelson, 32 of Philadelphia, and the woman was identified as Karima Atiya Evans, 29 of Philadelphia. The merchandise that was found and identified as stolen by BCBG management totaled an alleged $1,322.84. Evans was given a $5,000 unsecured bail on her April 20 arraignment. Her preliminary hearing is on April 30.

Four Vehicle Accident

On April 16 at approximately 2:45 p.m., responding Officer Mark Smythe was dispatched for a vehicle accident at the intersection of Main Street and 6th Avenue. Smythe reported he arrived to find four vehicles, including a tractor trailer, involved in a rear end collision.

"The driver of unit four, Alaina Marie Paoloca, explained that she was in a stopped position attempting to make a left turn onto N. Sixth Avenue," Smythe said in the report. "Her vehicle was in the eastbound lane of traffic. The driver of unit three, Heather Nicole Kelly, confirmed that unit four was in a stopped position with her left turn signal activated."

Unit three was reported to be in a stopped position behind unit four. Kelly explained to Smythe that she observed a truck approaching eastbound to the rear of her vehicle. She stated that she observed the vehicle fail to stop in time for the vehicles in front of it.

"The driver of unit two, Schantz, explained that he also observed the truck [unit one] failing to slow for his vehicle subsequently striking his vehicle in the rear," the report said. "The impact of unit one striking unit two subsequently pushed unit two into unit three which was pushed by the impact into unit four."

Unit one reportedly had minor front drivers' side bumper damage. Unit two had disabling damage to the rear and front of the vehicle which included fluid leaks from the engine, according to the report. Unit two was towed by Limerick Collision. Unit three sustained major rear damage as reported by Smythe.

"It was drivable for a short distance but is observed that the vehicle would be totaled," said Smythe. "Unit four sustained moderate damage to the rear bumper area which included lights and lenses. The driver of unit four, Paoloca, complained of soreness to her shoulder and neck area along with a mild headache. She refused EMS."

There were no other injuries reported. The driver of unit one, Gregory Brian Pamplin, explained that he observed the vehicles stopped and attempted to avoid impact but was not successful. Pamplin stated to police that he attempted to avert the collision by turning towards the sidewalk however he observed pedestrians walking on the path and did not want to chance hitting one. 

Pamplin was taken to Pottstown Memorial Medical Center for chemical testing of blood per Commonwealth of Pennsylvania law regarding a CDL licensed driver. He was not in custody.

Man Allegedly Assaults Ex-Girlfriend

On April 16 at noon responding Officer Mark Smythe received a dispatch for a head injury in the rear of the . Smythe said he made contact with the female victim, who was seated on the ground shrouded in blood from a head wound to her right temple area.

The woman explained that she had a fight with her former boyfriend, Robert P. Miller. She stated to police that she lives in an apartment on the 200 block of Main Street. The victim said she observed Miller across the street and explained their mutual friend lives at that address and Miller, who she believes is homeless, has been staying there.

The woman invited Miller over to her apartment to retrieve belongings he had left there, according to the report. She explained to police that a verbal argument ensued, and as she attempted to retreat into her sons' bedroom,  Miller pushed the door open and hit her in the head with a bag.

"The plastic white-in-color Giant food market bag was filled with personal items which belonged to Miller," Smythe said. "Items included a hair brush and metal model car. [Redacted] believes the pointed metal part of the model car had struck her in the right temple area."

The woman stated to Smythe that she fell to the ground, then got up and ran out the door. She believed that Miller had followed her out, according to the report.

The victim sustained a puncture-type wound to her left temple area. She lost a significant amount of blood according to Smythe. She was taken to Phoenixville Hospital for assessment.

Simple assault charges, recklessly endangering another person, harassment by physical contact and disorderly conduct charges were filed against Miller, 35, in this case and active warrant exists for him.

Pennsylvania State Police

The Pennsylvania State Police Skippack Barracks submitted the following reports of note.

Alleged DUI Occurs on 422

On April 21 at approximately 2:42 a.m., Trooper Derrick Cargill reported he stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at mile marker 184.2 on 422 in Upper Providence Township. Cargill said the operator, Debora Lee Mohring, 48 of Reading, exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. Charges are pending in district court.

Strange Box Removed from Roadway

On April 19 at 12:07 p.m., state police were dispatched for a report of a box/furniture blocking the lanes of travel on 422 east at mile marker 179.4 in Limerick Township.

Police removed the remains of a wooden box from the roadway. The property inside of the box was recovered and placed into evidence. It can be claimed Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m., reference: K03-1846185. (610-410-3835)
