Police Blotter

A look at last week's police activity in Limerick Township and Royersford, including one Pennsylvania State Police report.

The Limerick Township Police Department logged 165 incidents between Aug. 1-8. Of the incidents, 15 were deemed false alarms.

Among calls to which the police responded were the following incidents of note.

Two Big Retail Thefts Thwarted at Outlets

Philadelphia Premium Outlets saw at least two major retail thefts last week, both occurring on Saturday evening.

The first crime occurred around 6:55 p.m. when responding officer Sergeant Robert Matalavage was called to the outlets after receiving a report of a suspect fleeing the scene of a retail theft at Neiman Marcus. He was described as a black male wearing a white t-shirt and khaki-colored cargo shorts.

After leaving Neiman Marcus with a light blue polo shirt that he did not pay for, the Loss Prevention Officer confronted him and had a short conversation. The male then dropped the shirt and bolted across Lightcap Road and into the cornfields.

While in the fields, the male reportedly changed into clothes that he stole. Matalavage reported he requested the suspect, Ebuka Pancras Ndukwu, 19, of Sharon Hill, exit the cornfields, pointing his gun into the fields. Ndukwu did not come out after the first request and Lower Pottsgrove police were dispatched to assist in the arrest. He was cuffed and patted down, which caused officers to find a small amount of marijuana on him. It was later found Ndukwu was under the influence and was charged with retail theft and possession of marijuana.

Ndukwu stole the light blue polo from Neiman Marcus, valued at $50; two Levi t-shirts and one button down, valued at $61.47; and Nike sneakers valued at $69.99.

He was housed at Montgomery County Correctional Facility until Thursday, which was the date set for his preliminary hearing. Bail was set at $7,500 at 10-percent.

The second was committed by Anita Yvette Trott, 27, of Reading. Responding Officer Christopher Nestler was dispatched to the Nike store at the outlets around 8:43 p.m. He met with Trott and the Loss Prevention Officer of Neiman Marcus.

The LPO reported Trott selected a pair of sunglasses and an article of clothing, went to the dressing room and came out empty-handed. Upon searching the dressing room, neither item was found.

Trott exited the store without paying for the items and as a unit approached her, she tossed the sunglasses in the trash can. Officers found a second pair of sunglasses on her after retrieving the discarded pair. She was also found with items from Wilson's, Tommy Hilfiger, Nike, Columbia and Aerosoles with no receipts. When asked about the items, Trott told officers she was returning the items for a guy that said he would pay her cash for. He used a stolen credit card to purchase them according to Trott.

Upon further investigation, Trott was also found with cutters, commonly known as "dikes," which are allegedly used to cut store tags.

The price of all of the goods recovered from Trott was $278.

She had prior arrests for retail theft in 1998, 2005 and 2008. She is currently housed at Montgomery County Correctional Facility until Aug. 17, which is her preliminary hearing. Her bail is set at $15,000 at 10-percent.

Two incidents of note occurred over the weekend, reported by the Royersford Police Department.

Vandalism at Plotts

The department reported it responded to a glass breakage at Plotts Bros. Oil Company on Main Street. The incident occurred on Saturday at 1:30 a.m.

"Upon police arrival, there were two Plotts Bros. work vans parked on the property with smashed out rear windows in each van," the report indicated. "No entry into the vans were made and no property is believed to have been taken. Total damage estimates are unknown at this time."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Royersford Police.

Disrespect on Main

The department also reported an incident on Sunday at 5:25 p.m. around the 200 block of Main Street. An officer was patroling the area and passed by two male subjects, Ryan Devine, 25, of Malvern (last known address) and Richard Musselman, 18, of Royersford. Musselman flicked a lit cigarette in the direction of the officer's car.

"At conclusion of encounter, both subjects were released from scene, Devine to be charged with Public Drunkenness and Disorderly Conduct, and Musselman for Disorderly Conduct and Scattering Rubbish," the report said. "Both will be summoned to court."

The Pennsylvania State Police reported a vehicle accident on 422 eastbound at its intersection with Royersford Road on Aug. 9 at 1:51 p.m.

The accident involved only one vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler Cruiser. The operator, a woman from Douglassville had a passenger in the car from Royersford and lost control of the wheel, driving into the median and striking the guard rail, causing "disabling damage." The car was towed from the scene and no injuries were reported. Linfield Fire Company assisted due to fluid leaking from the car.
