Man Allegedly High on Cocaine Assaults Girlfriend

On Feb. 10 in the late evening hours, Upper Providence detectives investigated a complaint from a 30-year-old female who alleged she had been physically assaulted by Eric Rooney, 53 of Quail Drive South. She claimed she was assaulted inside of his residence at about 10:30 p.m. that night.

The woman accused Rooney of punching her in the face, verbally assaulting her, threatening to kill her, and brandishing a hunting rifle.

While in contact with the victim, officers responded to a complaint of four gunshots being fired in the area of Quail Drive. Officers could not find the location of the shots.

The victim indicated Rooney was under the influence of cocaine at the time. Detectives determined Rooney is prohibited from possessing firearms. The investigation continued through Feb. 13. Officers encountered Rooney in his Lincoln town car on S. Collegeville Road. Rooney refused to stop although police activated lights and sirens.

Rooney reached his residence driveway and was taken into custody with minimal resistance. Police found nine bags of cocaine on him, which field-tested positive. He also had crack pipes and copper Brillo. A .22 caliber rifle and ammo were recovered from inside his bedroom. There was also evidence of a firearm being discharged in the bedroom.
