Officers Mark Smythe was recognized for rescuing a drowning dog; Officer Tom Gooding revived an infant who was not breathing on an ambulance call.

Royersford Borough Council, along with Acting Police Chief Thomas Nerlinger, presented commendations to two police officers Tuesday for acts of heroism over the past year.

Royersford Mayor John Guest presented Officer Mark Smyth an award for saving a dog from the Schuylkill River in November.

"The dog was trapped underneath a log and only his head was visible. The dog did not have much time, according to Smythe," according to Royersford police.
