Phoenixville Police: Spring City Driver Hit Pedestrian

According to Phoenixville Police, the victim is in stable condition and doctors say she won't suffer paralysis.

A 17-year-old senior at Phoenixville Area High School is in serious but stable condition after she was hit by a car driven by an unidentified Spring City man. The victim was walking home from school on Tuesday night when she was hit, Sergeant Tom Goggin of the Phoenixville Police Department confirmed.

The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to Paoli Trauma Center for what Goggin characterized as “substantial” injuries—including broken bones and broad internal trauma. Goggin said that, contrary to previous reports, he does not believe she is in a coma.

Her prognosis is, at the moment, positive.

“She’s cleared two hurdles so far,” the sergeant explained. “One is that she survived the night. The other is that there won’t be any paralysis.”

Goggin said the girl’s mother told him that she was scheduled to undergo a procedure at the hospital on November 14.

According to Goggin, the girl was hit by a Toyota Corolla on S. Main Street near City Avenue at approximately 5:32 p.m. on November 13 while she was, he believes, walking home from an after school activity.

The driver, a Spring City resident on his way home from work, stayed at the scene after the accident and was, according to Goggin, “devastated.” The sergeant added that while the investigation is still in its early stages, there is no reason to think he was drunk or speeding.

“It had just gotten dark out,” Goggin said.

The sergeant added that it could be some time before the accident reconstruction is completed.
