Spring City man in distress taken to Phoenixville Hospital

A man in apparent mental distress was taken to the hospital Wednesday evening after police responded to the East Vincent where he had reportedly called authorities seeking help.

East Vincent Police Chief Matthew Williams told Frank Otto of the Pottstown Mercury that the unidentified man, said to be a resident of Spring City, "was seeking a mental evaluation" and that police had responded to the scene as a precaution.

The Mercury had previously reported on its Facebook page that officers at the scene had their weapons drawn.

Chester County emergency radio reports indicated the man was taken to Phoenixville Hospital, where members of his family were said to be gathering.
