Pot Pipe, Not Peeping, Leads to Man's Arrest, Police Say

A search for a 'peeping Tom' led police to an alleged marijuana smoker.

Limerick Township police officers searching for a possible "peeping Tom" instead found a man who allegedly had been smoking marijuana in the woods behind the Chester View Condominiums.

A resident on Horseshoe Drive reported seeing a man in the woods "fumbling with something in his pocket." Police responded to the location and found George Ferrara, 67, near the location.

When asked what he was doing in the area, Ferrara told police he does a three-mile walk every morning along the Brooke Elementary walking track and he "goes into the woods to light and smoke my pot," according to police.

"It's at the mid-way mark of my three-mile walk," Ferrara said, according to the criminal complaint. "It's also the lowest point of the track out of the wind and away from everyone else."

Officers searched Ferrara and found a marijuana pipe, two lighters and a small pair of scissors.

Officers looked at a pedometer Ferrara was carrying that showed he had walked a distance of 1.68 miles.

Ferrara was asked if he had ever looked into the town home windows, and he told police he had a detached retina and couldn't see more than a few feet in front of him, according to the report.

Ferrara was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct and released pending a hearing in June. He was also warned not to return to the Brooke Elementary School walking track.
