PSP Holds Camp Cadet in Limerick This Week

The camps if for kids in Montgomery, Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Troop K of the Pennsylvania State Police, in conjunction with local police departments, is holding its annual Camp Cadet at Camp Kwebec in Limerick Township.

The camp is open to children ages 11-14 who are residents of Montgomery, Philadelphia or Delaware Counties, according to police.

According to Troop K Trooper Morgan Crummy, Camp Cadet director, the purpose of Camp Cadet is to provide insight into police training and the overall expectations of a police officer. She said the program is a true-to-life experience, patterned after municipal and state police training, in which the youth participants gain an understanding and respect for the law, as well as themselves.

She said that the program is not a recreational camp, nor is it a disciplinary camp for problem youth.

“This is not boot camp,” Crummy said, in a recent career day visit to Skyview Upper Elementary School. “This is a camp for kids that are interested in becoming police or military.”

Crummy said that youth participants will be challenged by classroom instruction and physical activities. Self-discipline is also taught.

“There is an emphasis on self-discipline and teamwork,” Crummy said in a press release. “Bunks must be spotless each morning and counselors are addressed as ‘Sir’ or ‘Ma’am’.”

Crummy said that the discipline training fosters a positive attitude, which helps many graduating cadets attain goals once thought unattainable.
