Royersford Man Tased After Threatening to Kill Cop with Bike: Police

Greg McCauley, 47, was hogtied after allegedly resisting arrest.

A Royersford man is facing a number of charges, including aggravated assault on law enforcement, after a June 15 incident during which he allegedly threatened to kill a borough police officer and had to be Tasered and hogtied during his arrest, according to court documents.

A Royersford Borough Police officer was dispatched to the South Fourth Avenue home of Greg McCauley, 47, around 4:30 p.m. and found McCauley screaming profanities at his girlfriend’s father, who was holding a wooden stick and told police he feared for his life, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

When police approached McCauley, his speech was slurred and he shouted several obscenities at the officer, saying “you come any closer to me and I am going to ... kill you,” police said.

McCauley, described as 6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighing 270 pounds, was in arms-reach of a hammer, shovel and bicycle while talking to the officer, who was waiting for backup, police said.

As the officer attempted to get McCauley away from the potential weapons, McCauley allegedly shouted “you asked for it, ...,” picked up a mountain bike and said “I’m gonna ... kill you,” police said.

The officer took out his weapon and McCauley put down the bike, but physically resisted the officer during the arrest, to the point that the officer Tasered his back, police said.

Additional units from the Limerick Township Police Department arrived on the scene and helped to arrest McCauley, who all he wanted to do was “have a couple of drinks,” according to police.

When McCauley was placed in the police vehicle, he kicked the inside of the door multiple times, and officers hogtied him so he would not damage the vehicle further, police said.

McCauley is facing charges of aggravated assault on law enforcement, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest, among other charges, and is in jail after he was unable to post a $25,000 bail.
