Royersford Resident Rides In Police Unity Tour

Local resident Jose Davila rode 300 miles with 2,000 other police officers to mark the beginning of National Police Week.

Jose Davila, a West Chester University police officer, spent last Sunday, May 12 on a bike, riding 300 miles to Washington DC in memory of fallen police officers.

For Davila, it's not just a way to remember fallen brothers - it's a way to remember his friend, Berks County sheriff's deputy Kyle Pagerly, who was killed in the line of duty in 2011.

Davila's wife, Gina, told Patch that this was his second trip with the Police Unity Tour.

This year, he rode in memory of Pagerly and of Plymouth Township Officer Brad Fox. Gina Davila said he chose to honor Fox this year because Davila is a former Marine like Fox.

The tour is an association of police officers who hold a fundraising event each year before National Police Week. Their motto, "We Ride for Those who Died", is indicative of their dedication to remembering fallen officers.

Since 1997, the Tour has donated nearly $12 million to the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Fund.

Gina Davila told Patch that her husband will continue doing the bike ride "as long as his legs will allow it."

"He says it is such a humbling experience and a honor to be able to do this," Gina said.
