The impact of the crash spun the car into the eastbound lane. It came to rest about 75 feet down the roadway. Debris from the crash, including one of the car's wheels, was strewn along the roadway between the utility pole and where the car came to rest.

The passenger of the car was a male in his twenties, according to Limerick Police Chief William Albany. He was transported from the scene with what Albany described as "serious injuries" to his head and extremities.

The female driver of the car appeared uninjured and refused medical attention, Albany said.

She waited in a police vehicle at the scene as police combed through the vegetation on the south side of the road, where, Albany said, police retrieved a wooden box containing "a green leafy substance, not unlike marijuana."

Albany said that witnesses had seen the driver of the car throw something into the vegetation following the crash.

Albany said police were just beginning their investigation and would have more information later today.

Swamp Pike remained closed between Kugler Road and Neiffer Road as of 10:20 a.m.
