Update 11:25 a.m. The roadway has since been completely reopened to traffic, which is moving normally through the area.
Earlier story below.
A crash this morning snarled traffic on both sides of 422 for about an hour. As of 10:30am, one lane of westbound 422 had been reopened but there is still a substantial delay.
The crash, which occurred on the westbound side, involved a black Jeep SUV and a Garda armored car.
According to on on-site Patch reporter, both cars appear to have been traveling westbound but when they came to rest in the westbound center median following the crash, they were facing eastbound.
Initial reports indicated that two people were trapped in the armored car. Friendship Ambulance transported at least one patient in unknown condition.
The armored car flipped onto its side during the crash and had to be righted by a heavy towing rig from Superior Towing.
After the armored car was set upright, a second armored car from Garda arrived, possibly to transfer the contents of the vehicle involved in the accident.
Pennsylvania State Police are investigating with assistance from Limerick Township police. Limerick and Linfield Fire Companies were also on-scene.
