Upper Providence Announces New Police Chief

Mark Toomey, currently the Hatfield TownshipPolice Chief, will lead the Upper Providence Township police force.

The Upper Providence Board of Supervisors announced that Mark A. Toomey will become the township's next police chief, as current chief Donald H. Sherid has retired after serving in the position for 22 years.

Toomey comes to Upper Providence from Hatfield Township, where he has served as police chief for 10 years. He is the current Executive Board Chairman and past president of the Montgomery County Police Chiefs Association. Prior to becoming Chief in Hatfield, he served in the positions of Patrol Officer, Detective, and Detective Sergeant.

 “It is with deep gratitude that we thank Chief Sherid for his many years of dedicated service to our Township.  Our search for his replacement yielded law enforcement candidates of the highest caliber from all across the country,” said Lisa Mossie, Upper Providence Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman. “We are extremely pleased to welcome Chief Toomey to Upper Providence and have the highest confidence in his ability to lead our police department into this next era.”

Sherid will retire in January of 2014.
