Ursinus Dean of Students Recounts Boston Marathon Explosions

Deborah Olsen Nolan, vice president of student affairs and dean of students for Ursinus College, was cheering on her husband and daughter when the bombs detonated.

 

Ursinus Vice President of Student Affairs Deborah Olsen Nolan was cheering on her husband and daughter at the Boston Marathon on Monday .

“We heard the explosions, were evacuated from our hotel, and walked around the area this morning,” Nolan wrote in an e-mail to Patch, as she was traveling home to Collegeville.   “Every building seems to be guarded by SWAT or police with extensive weaponry. “

Nolan’s husband has run in several Boston Marathons, and her daughter was running her first in the city. 

“Both finished well before the tragedy, but my daughter had not yet showered or changed, so we were evacuated with her wrapped in her silver marathon blanket for hours,” Nolan said.

“Runners all around us were stranded since they could not reunite with families, had no cell phones, money, or anything,” according to Nolan.

“We are so thankful to be safe, and grieve for the victims,” Nolan said.
