Woman Charged with Barbell Assault Rejects Plea Deal

Donna Lynn Spencer, 45, was arrested in Phoenixville this summer.

A Spring City woman who was arrested in Phoenixville over the summer on charges that she struck a man in the head with a barbell during a robbery, turned down a plea deal in Montgomery County Court last week and will now face trial, The Mercury is reporting.

According to the paper, Donna Lynn Spencer, 45, could have agreed to serve three to six years in prison on robbery charges, but turned down the offer. She remains in country jail, pending trial.

Authorities were called to Royersford retirement facility Golden Age Manor on June 13 at 11:30 a.m. after police say Spencer arrived to ask her eventual victim for a small loan. When the man refused, Spencer allegedly cracked him in the head with a 25-pound dumbbell, stole $500, and fled the scene.
