Board Recognizes Historical Society President

Dot Jones retires after 27 years.

The Limerick Township Board of Supervisors led off their meeting with a pair of resolutions honoring two local volunteers.

Limerick Township Historical Society President Dot Jones is retiring after 27 years with the society. The board passed a resolution honoring and thankg her for her long service in preserving the history of the township.

Jones was instrumental in getting the Hunsberger House placed on the National Register of Historic Places. She also helped design the township flag for the township's 275th anniversary.

Jones told the board she is staying in the area. "I've got family here," she said.

The board also recognized Tyler Oliver, who spent the last year serving as the student representative on the Parks and Recreation Committee.

Committee member Margie Schweitzer said, "It's been a pleasure to work with Tyler this past year."

Development plan

The board also heard from Len DelGrippo regarding a potential development project on Ridge Pike.

DelGrippo owns a property at 511 West Ridge Pike, next to the District Court building.

The proposed plan will be the first building to be bullt under the new Ridge Pike zoning ordinance. This property is zoned village commercial, and the new ordinance encourages mixed uses.

DelGrippo is proposing several retail stores on the first floor and twelve apartments on the second floor. The building will also be within walking distance of the large apartment complex behind it.

The board's reactions to the plan were positive.

Other business

Borough engineer Khal Hassan said that it is a "matter of days" before the Lewis Road project will be finished.

"I went through today and there were permanent lines being painted," board chairwoman Kara Shuler.

"All I want for Christmas are no more orange cones on Lewis Road!" joked Three Peas in a Pod owner Gail Wellington.

I am sure Dot Jones deserves all the credit given but it should read the Limerick Township Historical Society not the Spring-Ford Historical Society. Mr. Bill Brunner is the President of the Spring-Ford Historical Society. Anyway.... Congrats to Dot on a job well done!

Thanks for the correction, Len! My apologies for the mistake.
