Code Blue Emergency Declared for the Weekend

Temperatures are expected to dip into the twenties and teens over the next several days.

This release was sent in by the Montgomery County Department of Health.

The Montgomery County Commissioners, on the advice of the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, have declared a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency for Montgomery County based on a review of forecasts from the National Weather Service.

The Code Blue Declaration has been issued for Montgomery County for the period beginning at 6:00PM on Thursday, December 27, 2012 until 6:00PM on Monday, December 31, 2012.

A Code Blue Cold Weather declaration is made in Montgomery County when winter conditions pose a threat of serious harm or death to individuals without shelter.  A Code Blue is called when the combination of air temperature and wind chill is anticipated to be 20ºF or less.

According to a Facebook post by the Royersford Borough Emergency Operations Center, four "warming centers" will be available for people who need a place to go out of the cold:

- Norristown Salvation Army at 533 Swede Street in Norristown, PA 
- Coordinated Homeless Outreach at Norristown State Hospital, Bldg. 53 
- Pottstown Salvation Army at 137 King Street in Pottstown, PA 
- Trinity Lutheran Church at 1000 West Main Street in Lansdale, PA
