Could Outages Impact Our Polling Places?

With power outages still rampant in many areas and the Nov. 6 election a matter of days away, locals may be wondering not just whom to cast a vote for, but where to do it. 

At least for now, none of the county's polling places have changed, according to Montgomery County Spokesman Frank Custer. But, he told Patch that it's "a really fluid situation" which could continue to evolve. 

The Montgomery County Board of Elections has begun delivering machines to some of its 435 polling locales, Custer said. The job, at the moment, is "ascertaining which ones have power and which ones are open," he said.

"We are delivering the voting machines to places that we know are open," Custer said. 

All of the machines must be delivered by the day before the election on Monday, Custer said. 

"If there’s an absolute emergency and it has to be moved we can move it," Custer said adding that polling relocations would be carried out "on an as-needed basis."

"We’re not going to make a decision prematurely," Custer said.

Custer said he has not heard of any structural damages at polling places, but said some are still without power. 

All of the polling places we were able to reach in Limerick, Royersford and Spring City are in good shape, have power and have either already received their voting machines or are expecting them tomorrow.
