Interactive Map Shows Tax Burden on Spring-Ford Residents

Interactive map has tax burdens for state, local and sales tax for Philadelphia and its suburbs.

Pew Trusts has released an interactive map that shows the tax burden for Philadelphia and its suburbs for a hypothetical family of two adults and two children.

The chart shows what a family pays in property, income and sales taxes in each municipality studied in 2000 versus 2012.

Limerick Township and Royersford Borough are represented on the map, but Spring City Borough is not.

According to Pew Trusts, the median household income for the entire region in 2000 was $47,500, which has increased to $60,000.

In Limerick Township residents who don't work in Philadelphia paid an average of 9.9 percent of their income in taxes (state, local, and sales tax) in 2000, but paid 11.2 percent of their income in taxes in 2012.

In Royersford Borough residents who don't work in Philadelphia paid an average of 10.3 percent of their income in taxes (state, local, and sales tax) in 2000, but paid 12.2 percent of their income in taxes in 2012.

Based on the hypothetical family, that's a difference of $447 in Limerick Township and $800 in Royersford Borough between 2000 and 2012.
