Limerick Board Increases Taxes , Sewer Overage Rates

The average township property tax will increase around $18.

The Limerick Township Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to increase the township’s tax millage rate and to increase sewer rates for some customers.

The new millage rate is 2.004, an increase of .109 mills; the homeowner of a $150,000 will see taxes rise by $16 per year. The average increase will be between $16-$20 per year in the township.

The 2014 budget, at $23,734,327, is a 5.75 percent increase over the current year’s budget, and includes work on a new $2 million public works building, which will go out to bid next year.

Township Supervisors Elaine DeWan, Joseph St. Pedro and Kara Shuler voted in favor of the budget and the new tax increase, while Thomas Neafcy and Kenneth Sperring voted against the measures.

The board voted 4-1, with Sperring casting the lone dissenting vote, to increase the sewer overage fees by 4 percent for customers who use more than the 1,000 cubic feet provided in the base user charge each quarter.

The $84.30 quarterly base usage charge will remain unchanged.  For customers using over 1,000 cubic feet, they will be charged $4.84 per each 100 cubic feet over 1,000.  Under the 2013 budget, the rate is $4.65.

“The average household will not see an increase in their sewer rates,” said Limerick Township Manager Daniel Kerr.
