Montco Sheriff Resigning for Post at Drexel University

Sheriff Eileen Behr has held the position since 2011; Governor Tom Corbett will appoint her replacement.

Montgomery County Sheriff Eileen Whalon Behr will leave her elected office for a position at Drexel University in Philadelphia, according to county public information assistant Teresa Harris.

Behr's new position will reportedly be the Director of Police Operations, and will begin on Jan. 3.

Behr was appointed to the post after former Sheriff John Durante died suddenly in 2011.  She was elected to the position in November of 2011.

According to Pennsylvania Code, Governor Tom Corbett will appoint a replacement to the position within 90 days. The replacement must be the same political party as Behr - a Republican.

A new sheriff will be elected in the next municipal election, 2015.
