Poll: Should the PA Legislature's Size Be Reduced?

PA House votes to support measure

Pennsylvania House Representatives voted 140-49 in support of a bill that would reduce the size of the legislature, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer article. The bill now goes to the Senate.

"The bill (which has faced criticism) ... would reduce the House from 203 seats to 153 and the Senate from 50 senators to 38 - thus relieving the state of the dubious distinction of having America's second-biggest state legislature," the article states.

What do you, our readers, think? Should we shrink the number of legislators?

A shame we can't downsize the federal government at the moment.

The US government began with a compromise 2 houses of Congress and , apparently, PA and other states folowed the plan. There is no reason for this - actually, there is no reason for it in the US Congress today. Simply eliminate the State senate and just have the house. And, use the existing county lines rather then any sort of gerrymandering. The large populated counties would get more representatives in proportion to their population on some formular.

We really can't do anything until we have election reform. The congress's main work is getting reelected and that tkes money. Once this happens we will simply do away with the Senate. Why the hell should WY get the same noumber of senators as PA/NY/CA? Ever been there? Nothing there. We could use the Sneate space for receptions and functions.

It is true that polls such as this are not at all scientific and are just for fun.
