Royersford Budget to Include Tax Increase

The borough's tax rate will increase 1.5 mills.

Royersford Borough will be advertising a budget for 2013 that includes an increase from 6.7 mills to 8.2 mills, an increase of 22 percent.

Council voted to post the budget for advertisement at Tuesday's meeting, which means it will have a public hearing and be voted on on Dec. 11.

The new millage rate would represent an increase of about $150 per year on a $100,000 home.

Sewer line testing

The borough is planning on doing sewer line testing in the next few weeks throughout the borough. The testing uses smoke that is pumped into the sewer line, and the smoke will show any leaks in sewer lines. If a home has issues with traps on its sewer lines, the smoke will show in vents on the roof.

The smoke is created by burning mineral oil, which is non-toxic and will not damage homes.

The purpose of the testing is to help find sources of excess water draining into the sewer lines. If not fixed, excess water can cause flooding and other problems at pumping stations.

Holiday event

The borough holiday tree lighting will be Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7pm at the municipal lot at Main Street and 3rd Avenue.
