"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself."

It’s hard to believe Memorial Day is just around the corner.  We always think of Memorial Day as the true arrival of summer, a busy season when many of the families we work with are anxious to be settled before the new school year arrives.

Pam and I hope you’re well and looking forward to a little rest and relaxation on the long Memorial Day Weekend.  We know the air will be filled with the smell of BBQs and kids playing, a fortunate reminder of how much we have to be thankful for in our community.

But during this Memorial Day, We’d like you to hold in your heart and mind those families throughout history who have paid the ultimate price for the freedom we’ll all enjoy this summer.  Those who have fallen in service to the military should not be forgotten among our celebrations.

Sadly, we do not have to look very far into the past to remember those who have died.  Right now, there are those in our community whose sons, daughters, husbands, and wives will not be joining them this year.  We encourage you to show your respect and appreciation for those families.  Invite them to enjoy fellowship with you this Memorial Day.   Honor them and honor their soldiers by holding up a mirror to show the generous, grateful community we live in.

This is also an excellent time to teach our children what Memorial Day means.  Why not take an evening to make a connection with them by exploring some websites which talk about the history of Memorial Day.  (The History Channel is a good place to start: http://www.history.com/topics/memorial-day-history).

May your summer be a reward, and Memorial Day a time to recharge and remember the big picture.  All our best to you and yours.  Keep in touch.
