Rep. Tom Murt Flees House Floor, Protects Corbett from Investigation

Rep. Tom Murt flees House floor, protects Gov. Corbett from investigation stemming from Sandusky scandal.

Yesterday, State Rep. Tom Murt and the Republican leadership fled the house chamber in the middle of session and cancelled votes in order to prevent the passage of HR 520, urging the US Attorney General to investigate Gov. Tom Corbett’s handling of the Jerry Sandusky investigation.

This is another example of Representative Murt’s ‘follow the leader’ approach in Harrisburg. Rep Murt followed the Corbett administration in voting to cut millions of dollars from our schools, he followed the Corbett administration in restricting voting rights to the elderly and disabled and now he is following house Republicans in a partisan attempt to protect their leader, Tom Corbett.

It is time for Murt to stand up for Pennsylvania's families by calling for a federal investigation of now Corbett's handling of the Sandusky investigation. We now know that as Pennsylvania Attorney General Corbett had uncovered all of the material facts concerning these tragic events of prolonged child abuse at least two years before the criminal case was filed by his successor.

During some of that time as Governor, Corbett was even on the Penn State board of trustees. Yet he said nothing while acts of child abuse and the threat of more abuse were ongoing.

Murt purports to be a champion of our children, the disabled and our educators, but he has been silent on this, supporting his party's efforts to sweep this tragedy under the rug.

Now is the time for him to speak up and be counted by voting for this resolution, to ensure that the citizens of our Commonwealth that this will never be permitted to happen again. A call for an independent investigation is the right thing to do. It is time for Rep. Murt to stand up to his party's leadership and put the interests of vulnerable children first.

House Resolution 520 is a concurrent resolution calling on the Attorney General of the United States to appoint a special counsel to investigate the handling by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General of an investigation into alleged sexual abuse of minors and to investigate whether that alleged sexual abuse may have violated federal law.

If this same piece has run in other Dem blogs, there is an excellent chance that this is just party propoganda stuffed into the mouths of newbies like Mr. Kolla. A word to Mr. Kolla: fight back against your party hacks and run your own campaign if you propose to make a real go of this -- an ethical one based on facts would be best. Don't you think Tom Murt was loaded for bear with ridiculous "ammunition" by his own party? He has told his own party to stuff it so he could run a clean campaign since the moment he threw his hat in the ring the first time. They didn't like it at all. But this is his home town which he loves with all his heart. He is not about to engage in dirty politics with the people he grew up with, his neighbors and friends. He is honest, works very hard and respects people. I just wish he would run for higher office. We need more people like him in high places, in my opinion.

He was too busy with his face in a hoagie to know anything.

Watch what you say - the dems would lose 90% of their base if any "tests" had to be taken before the vote. They could maybe blow the dust off the ones they forced on the blacks down south.

Come on Froggy! Why let the facts get in the way?
