Brian "Deuce" Clarke Remembered

Spring-Ford High School football started their regular season with a tribute to a lost teammate and a moment of silence for a lost classmate.

Standing quietly, helmets under their arms, the Spring-Ford High School football team watched as Brian Clarke's parents Kathleen and Brian Sr. served as honorary team captains for Friday night's opening game against Whitehall High School.

Several players wiped tears away as four white doves were released.

The Clarkes were given Brian's last game-worn jersey from last year, as well as a new jersey with Brian's number 44 on it. They were also gifted with a framed shield and a football signed by the players.

The team also held a moment of silence for another former football player, Austin Perdue, who was just a few weeks ago.

Many students have used the hashtag #BC44, representing Brian's initials and number, to commemorate him over the last several months.

"Tonight's the start of a great season dedicated to #BC44," Haley Puckett wrote on Twitter before the game.

"We do it for #BC44," tweeted Danny Matthews.
