Brooke Fourth-Graders Start Mosaic Project

Students will design individual tiles and put them together into a larger collaborative project.

This release was provided by Spring-Ford School District.

Brooke Elementary School fourth-grade art students put their creative talents to work to begin design work on a handmade ceramic mosaic that will ultimately be presented to the Spring-Ford community.

The students began working Monday to design individual colored clay tiles. Susan Di Guiseppe’s art class will work with professional Philadelphia-based mosaic artist Jessica Gorlin Liddell on the project, which will reflect students’ design knowledge of pond life, insect worlds and flora, as seen within their own lives and surrounding the school’s courtyard pond.

The activity tests students’ skills in color, shape, line and design to help them achieve success.

Robyn Burckhardt, Art’s Alive! Program co-coordinator, said the project teaches students to think critically and work together to create a large-scale work of art that will be seen by parents, community members and all who visit the building.

The project is slated for completion by mid-October, with a dedication celebration to take place at a later date.

Funding to support the project was provided by the Brooke Elementary School administration and the Home and School Association.
