Spring-Ford Band Brings Home Gold

The Golden Ram Marching Band was in Delaware for a Tournament of Bands competition Saturday.

The following was sent in by George Growcott of the Spring-Ford "Golden Ram" Marching Band:

The "Golden Ram" Marching Band traveled to Wilmington, Del. to perform at William Penn High School in a Tournament of Bands marching band show Saturday night. The band showed the good folks of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey what they’re all about.

The Spring-Ford Marching Band, under the direction of John E Eckstine, Jr., came home with the highest score of the evening: 90.50 out of a possible 100. The band not only outscored the two bands in its class - Cab Calloway for the Performing Arts HS from Wilmington, who received a score of 84.95 and Avon Grove HS from West Grove, Pa., with a score of 84.60 - but also received the High Percussion Award.

Spring-Ford’s score is the highest received in any Tournament of Bands event this season and is the only high school to receive a score over 90 out of over 150 high schools having performed this year.

So far, the band has attended a band contest at North Penn High School in Lansdale, where it also received the highest score in its class. Spring-Ford also held its own show on Oct. 1. These performances were in addition to attending, performing and supporting Spring-Ford football games.
