Spring-Ford Students Honor Veterans

Students from Brooke and Royersford Elementary Schools, and the 5/6 Center, participated in events to honor veterans.

Students from throughout the Spring-Ford area honored local veterans with a variety of presentations and performances on Monday, Veterans Day.

At Brooke Elementary School, third and fourth grade students honored veterans with a concert at Southeastern Veteran Center in Spring City.

“I really appreciate the kids coming out and putting on the show for us,” said Don Joseph Momat, Jr., a Navy veteran.  “It felt great, and brought back a lot of memories.  It’s good to talk to them and teach the students for a little bit.”

Students practiced the concert for several weeks, learning a variety of songs to represent different branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.

“I felt nervous because of all the people, but it felt good because I really appreciate everything the veterans have done for us,” said Julian Erbe, a 3rd grade student.

First through fourth graders and Royersford Elementary honored veterans at the school, with presentation including “Wall of Honor” and the “Hands Flag,” as well as goodie bags for their guests.

“The message to veterans is that we truly are honored and proud for them to be a part of our community,” said Royersford Elementary School Principal Theresa Carboy.  “Through this Veterans Day program, we can teach our kids more about things not in the curriculum, such as courage, sacrifice, and duty.”

Students at the 5/6 Center presented a variety of performances, including poety readings, musical performances, and a video tribute to veterans related to the school community.
