Volunteers Needed for 2013 Autism Speaks Walk

Local autism support group organizes Autism Walk, sponsored by Autism Speaks.

The A Team, an autism support group for parents of autistic children operating in the Spring-Ford Area, will hold an organizational meeting for its April 6, 2013 Local Autism Speaks Autism Walk. The meeting will be held on June 28 at 7 p.m. at the on 19 West Linfield-Trappe Road in Limerick.

According to A Team founder Gloria Vollert, everyone is invited to attend.

"We need every position for this walk to be successful," Vollert said. "Chairpersons and committee members. Some examples of positions needed are: Logistics, Publicity, Sponsorship, Advertising, Volunteers, [and] Community Outreach."

An Autism Speaks representative will be at the meeting to inform volunteers about what each position entails, as well as how much of a time commitment each position takes.

The purpose of the walk is not only to raise funds for autism research, but also to promote autism awareness in the community.

Vollert asks that all interested and potential volunteers contact her at kurtglo@comcast.net for purposes of a rough head count.

Although the A Team operates in the Spring-Ford area, it is open to anyone in the greater region, including school districts like Perkiomen Valley, Pottstown, Phoenixville and Owen J. Roberts.
