This week we'll head to a strip mall in Limerick and ask your opinion on what new and exciting business you'd like to see in our area. Familiarize yourself with Ridge Pike in Limerick. Do you know where Dunkin Donuts is? How about Franklin's? Make that right onto Kugler Road and see the shopping center behind it. That is where this week's empty storefront rests. This is the old "Time 2 Party" location. The shop sits between Bravo Pizza and Blinds 48. Looking inside the windows of the shop, I saw a big empty space with a colorful floor. You know what that means? A lot of potential for any kind of store. You can literally put anything in here - the sky is the limit. So let your imagination run wild, folks! I was thinking this might be a good…

The potential for a run at 90 degrees sometime during the Memorial Day Weekend is real...but we'll first have to deal with a really slow moving coastal trough over the coming week.
Last week's article talked about the potential for a coastal low to develop and wreak havoc on our weather this week. The potential doth yield reality in this case as a coastal trough is aligned off of the Carolina coast and will slowly push northward into our area for the start of the new week. The good news? It won't rain all of the time. The bad news? It might take until Memorial Day Weekend for it to clear out of here. This trough's slow movement isn't unusual for May systems that develop and like to linger off of the Atlantic coastline. As the Bermuda High and the Southeastern US "heat high" develop, frontal boundaries tend to stall out along the East Coast, sometimes hanging out for a period of days before they finally get pushed …

There has been an obvious outcry in the area for a wider variety of grocery stores. From Shop Rite to Bottom Dollar (last week's suggestion for the old Rite Aid in Limerick) to the world-famous Trader Joe's, comments have poured in with that very desire. This week, we will take a look at a shopping center that already has a grocery store... We're in Limerick where the Giant, Kohl's and Marshall's sit and we want to know what you want to see in the old Blockbuster space! The Blockbuster closed last summer and has sat vacant ever since. With your regular grocery and department stores already occupying the immediate area, and lots of fast food and chain restaurants right down the road, we want to know what you think fits best in this space. …

The weather week will start damp, possibly end damp, but feature a very nice stretch in between.
May is one of those months that can bring us summery heat, cool mornings, and sometimes frontal boundaries that like to hang out over the region as they lose their punch and run into the developing summertime Bermuda high in the Atlantic. We've had a few "slow moving fronts" through the region the past three weeks and this week promises yet another front and another slow track through the region between Monday and Wednesday. It won't rain at all times on Monday or Tuesday but when it does, rain could be potentially heavy and some spots could pick up a couple of inches of rain in the next couple of days. The best chances for heavier rain will reside in the Monday night and Tuesday morning timeframe before the main rain axis shifts into New …
Vesta, part of the solar system's asteroid belt, is a relic from the time when Earth and the other planets took shape.
Vesta was the Roman goddess of hearth and home, but there's nothing warm or cozy about her celestial namesake. That Vesta is a barren, airless "protoplanet" that circles the Sun between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter amid the primordial space debris of our solar system's main asteroid belt, where it is regularly pelted by its much tinier neighbors―and, as scientists have learned, occasionally clobbered by not-so-tiny ones. Vesta is in the news this week because of the initial published findings from NASA's Dawn space probe, which arrived at Vesta last July as part of its mission to collect information about the earliest days of the solar system, when the planets formed. Vesta is about 330 miles wide, which makes it the second largest …

Last week, we fielded your thoughts on the old Acme location on Ridge Pike. Many people saw the need for a Trader Joe's, but we also heard a few requests for Shop Rite and even a Dave and Busters! This week, we're staying on Ridge Pike and taking a look at the old Rite Aid location on the corner of N. Lewis Road and Ridge. See the above photo to refresh your memory. The store has sat vacant for quite some time, and in my personal opinion, it's pretty good real estate. Looking at the surrounding area, across the road, you'll see Kelly's WorldClass Automotive and Hillbilly BBQ. Perpendicular, we have Rascal's Fitness, Piazza Presto, and a Chinese takeout. So, what makes the most sense over here? Does a restaurant make sense? It will provide …

Another week, another slow moving front, and a chance for more needed rains ahead!
Last week's forecast blew up in many a forecaster's (including my own) face as a slow moving warm front moved slower than antcipated, resulting in a couple of days of clouds and drear during the middle of the week. The warm front had finally cleared but then after thunderstorms along a cool front slid south through the region on Friday night another round of clouds from the Atlantic took over. Frontal boundaries slow as they try to slip south of our latitude at this time of the year, thanks to the developing subtropical high pressure ridge of the Southeast. That ridge prevents colder air from sinking too far south and as the influence of colder airmasses weakens with each passing day due to longer days, the pattern can stagnate many times …

Well, the moment has finally arrived. The moment that you've all been seemingly waiting for. Is it obvious? See the above photo. Residents, citizens and other interested parties have been begging for a Trader Joe's, possibly in this location, or basically anywhere it will fit. So, for this week's segment, we take a look at the old Limerick Acme located off of Ridge Pike. The store has been closed for about a year now with no major signs of activity. What makes this an appealing spot for a Trader Joe's? The size of the store? The fact that it can handle another grocery outlet? Is another type of store more appropriate here? What would you like to see go here? Tell us what you think and why. I have a feeling this is going to be a well-…

April may be ending on a cool note but May not start the same way. Weather that's more "typical" of late Spring is on its way.
Last Sunday's coastal storm and its resulting hangover of cool weather in our region resulted in eight straight below average days through Sunday, which is the longest stretch of below average temperatures we've seen since the end of October. This stretch of March-like cool has about one more day in it before we have a quick rebound in weather as the pattern shifts, rather markedly, Monday night. A warm front will lift through the region Monday night, spreading some showers and storms through the region as it passes through. The forecast for Tuesday features optimistic highs in the upper half of the 70s based on an early departure of rainfall and the return of sunshine. That said, if clouds linger and the warm front doesn't push north far …

Space is small, speaking as someone who has owned a restaurant. Could work as a small internet cafe or bagel/pastry shop.   more ›
