Witnesses Testify in Eckstine Case

Multiple witnesses to the altercation between former Spring-Ford band director John Eckstine and a Limerick woman testified on Thursday.

Preliminary hearings for John E. Eckstine, former Spring-Ford band director, and Jacqueline M. Alegado, a Limerick woman and band parent, were held last Thursday. During the hearings, multiple witnesses testified. Four charges were dropped from Eckstine's case, while Alegado was held on all charges. Both cases will go to the Court of Common Pleas in Norristown on July 5. Below are accounts from multiple witnesses in the case. Morris, a 15-year veteran of the Limerick Police Department, saw the aftermath of a motor vehicle accident in the residential area where he resides. Christopher D. Yingling, 42, of the 500 block of West Second Street, who was previously charged with shooting Limerick fire official Glen Russell on Jan. 24 in his car in a Berks County parking lot, was charged Wednesday with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sex assault, aggravated indecent assault, prostitution, producing and presenting obscene sexual materials and performance, as well as other similar offenses, all involving a girl under the age of 15. “This is just the most disturbing number of facts I’ve seen,” …

Dog Attacks Child in Linfield [updated]

Child transported to St. Christopher's by helicopter; dog turned over to animal control

Emergency medical services and animal control personnel responded to an address on Sacco Road in the Linfield section of Limerick at about 6:20 p.m. Friday evening after a 4-year-old boy was attacked by a Rottweiler dog. Emergency dispatch radio reports described the child as "breathing normally" but "bleeding heavily" from wounds to his arm and leg. The Limerick Police Department said Saturday on its Facebook page that the dog "lunged" at the boy as he passed on his bike. According to the police, the boy's parents were talking to the dog's owners when the attack took place. The dog's owners turned it over to animal control officials. A medical helicopter landed on a softball field at the nearby Linfield Sports Park to transport the child …

The following report was submitted by Royersford Police Department: On May 13 at 8:11 p.m., Officer Tom Godin reported he was on routine patrol when stopping a vehicle for a traffic violation. Upon approach and speaking with the driver, Godin said he became alerted to the driver continuously reaching for his right pocket. "The vehicle did smell of stale marijuana," Godin said. "As I got the driver out of the vehicle and patted him down for weapons I noted the passenger side map door had what appeared to be a gun handle sticking out of it. I requested Officer Oberholtzer to get the passenger out of the vehicle and pat him down." Godin went over and retrieved the handle which was a handle to an emergency brake for the vehicle. The Limerick Township Police Department logged 149 incidents between May 7 and 13. Of them, nine were deemed false alarms. On May 5 at 1:49 p.m., Officer John Cassel Jr. was dispatched to 165 W. Ridge Pike, lot 242 for a hit and run in progress. He was told a burgandy Monte Carlo struck two flower pots at lot 233 and parked at lot 242. The caller indicated the driver may be intoxicated. Upon arrival, Cassel observed a Mark Alan Richardson, 57, sitting on his front step smoking a cigarrette. "I don't know what the problem is," Richardson said to police. "All I did was run over a kid's scooter. I'll pay the $29 for it. The kid shouldn't have it in the street anyway." Witnesses on scene told Cassel that Richardson never hit a scooter and that…

King of Prussia man arrested for DUI in Upper Providence Township

The Pennsylvania State Police Skippack Barracks submitted the following report of note: On May 12 at 1:59 a.m., Corporal David M. Pezzano stopped a 1994 Toyota Corolla for erratic driving. The driver, Jigar J. Patel, 24 of King of Prussia, was allegedly exhibiting signs of alcohol impairment on 422 East in the area of the Collegeville exit in Upper Providence Township. The police report indicates Patel failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the Pennsylvania State Police Skippack Barracks for a chemical test of his breath. Charges for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol and related traffic charges will be filed in district court.

Judge to Eckstine, Alegado: No Contact

The preliminary hearings for John E. Eckstine, the former Spring-Ford band director, and band parent Jacqueline M. Alegado were held on Thursday morning. At the end of each proceeding, Magisterial District Judge Edward C. Kropp Sr. told the defendents not to contact each other at all during the ongoing court proceedings. All charges will be heard at the Court of Common Pleas in Norristown for Alegado. Patch reported earlier today that four charges were dismissed from Eckstine's case, including a misdemeanor simple assault. The next hearing is scheduled for July 5. During the preliminary hearing, Lower Pottsgrove Officer David Slothower and Limerick Police Detective Ernie Morris testified they had heard of prior incidents between the two. …

Four Charges Dismissed in Eckstine Case

The preliminary hearings for former Spring-Ford band director John E. Eckstine and band parent Jacqueline Alegado were held on Thursday.

Former Spring-Ford band director John E. Eckstine had four charges dismissed from the case that was a result of an alleged high speed chase and vehicle accident in Lower Pottsgrove on May 2. Eckstine will not be charged with two counts of recklessly endangering another person (misdemeanor), one count of furnishing authorities with information without knowing (misdemeanor), and one count of simple assault (misdemeanor). Eckstine's hearing was in front of Magisterial District Judge Edward C. Kropp Sr. on May 17. The following charges will be heard at the Court of Common Pleas in Norristown on July 5: The woman involved in the altercation that occurred on May 2, Jacqueline M. Early Sunday Police Chase Results in Crash

Royersford Police chased down a traffic law offender after he tried to flee.

Jeffrey D. Metz, 23 of Pottstown, has charges pending from Royersford Police after an early Sunday morning incident. Metz allegedly ran a red light and fled from police, eventually crashing his car. Royersford Police Chief Kevin Schurr confirmed the May 13, 2:50 a.m. pursuit, which began at Lewis Road and Walnut Street in Royersford. Patrolling the area, Royersford Police witnessed Metz operating his 2005 Dodge Neon traveling north on Lewis Road. The report said Metz then disregarded a "steady red traffic signal" at Lewis and Walnut. "Police attempted to stop vehicle in question and it proceeded on various streets in the borough at a high rate of speed," the report continued. The Pennsylvania State Police Skippack Barracks submitted the following report relating to the Spring-Ford area: On May 1 at 7:20 p.m. on 422 East in Limerick Township, a 23-year-old female of Boyertown allegedly threw trash and other debris from her vehicle. The debris reportedly struck the vehicle of a 35-year-old male of Collegeville and caused minor damage. Police reported multiple charges are pending.
