Band Director John Eckstine and 5/6 Center Principal Ed Smith say goodbye officially to Spring-Ford.
The Spring-Ford Area School District officially approved the resignations of Band Director John E. Eckstine Jr. and 5/6 Center Principal Edward J. Smith at Tuesday night's regular meeting. Eckstine's resignation comes as no surprise after he informed the district on May 4 that he would no longer serve the school. After personal issues arose resulting in a vehicle accident and an arrest, Eckstine chose to resign on his own accord. His case goes to the Court of Common Pleas in Norristown on the morning of July 5. At the beginning of the meeting, Kathy Bryant of Upper Providence spoke on the resignation. "Prior to accepting any resignations tonight, if you had considered an escalating bad situation, perhaps you could have avoided the …

Photos and musings from the Girl Scouts' latest service project.
Girl Scouts Troop 7902 held its Earth Day Project 2012 at the 5-6 Center on April 18 after school. The scouts, along with members of the high school's National Honors Society, sixth grade teacher Dacia Williams, and scout leaders Arlene Hudak and Jennifer Kuklentz, planted flowers and shrubs, cleaned up the area and worked on the pond at the school's courtyard. All of this was done with the skies darkening, but the rain held out long enough for the project to complete. "Mrs. Hudak came to me and had an idea for a service project to work with us every year," said Williams. "I try to come out here with the classes I have and clean up the courtyard, fix the pond, work on different things. We're about five years into this project with this …

Results from this year's Warm Woolies Project at the 5-6 Center.
The Warm Woolies Project, held at the 5-6 Center within the Spring-Ford Area School District, commenced this week, tallying results of 401 items donated to those in need. The project, in coordination with Project Outreach, is designed to give warm apparel to less fortunate citizens. A tree was displayed in the main hallway of the building, where hats, gloves, socks, scarves, etc. were hung on display. Two boxes rested underneath the tree for students to drop off items to be donated. Here are the final results: "Our thanks to all of those who participated in this project," said 5-6 Center Learning Support Teacher Kathleen Grispon. "Now those in need can have a nice, warm, wooly winter."

Sixth-grade students in Cheryl Kramer’s art class started the fused art project in mid-November, which tested their color, shape, line and design skills. With the help of professional Philadelphia mosaic artist Jessica Gorlin Liddell, students created individual tiles of colored glass that were recently installed at the rear entrance …
