Despite Sandy, Absentee Ballot Deadline Stays

Judge rejects Montgomery County's petition to extend absentee ballot filing deadline in wake of disruptive storm

A county judge on Wednesday denied an emergency request by the county to extend a 5:00 p.m. Friday deadline for the submission of absentee ballots in next Tuesday's general election. The Intelligencer reported that Judge Bernard A. Moore said he didn't believe he had the legal authority to extend the deadline. Citing the loss of power and other infrastructure disruptions caused by "the devastating impact of Hurricane Sandy," the county had requested that absentee ballots postmarked by Monday, Nov. 5 be accepted through Tuesday, Nov. 13. Absentee Ballot Deadline Approaching

Those without permanent absentee status must apply for an absentee ballot by Oct. 30. Completed ballots must be received by Nov. 2.

If you're a registered voter in Montgomery County who is going to be out of the area on Election Day, Nov. 6, you can still vote by casting an absentee ballot. To obtain an absentee ballot, you must submit an application to the county Election Board. The application can be downloaded here, or you can obtain a hard copy at your local municipal building. How to Vote if You Can't Make It to the Polls on Election Day

Instructions on how to file absentee ballots for ex-pats, military members, the sick, or those away for school or business.

The following non-partisan information was written and provided by Marjorie Berlinghof, Montgomery County Democratic Committee Area 6 Leader. Do you have friends and family who are US citizens who reside temporarily or “permanently” outside the US?  If so, take note.  They can vote in the 2012 election and voting by mail has been made quicker and easier for them. Overseas voters can go to the Federal Voting Assistance Program website at www.fvap.gov.  There they will get the information they need about voting, particularly the PA regulations, and the form they need. Voters have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 to apply.

  Voters who want an absentee ballot for Pennsylvania's April 24 Primary Election have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 to apply.
