Alleged Bath Salts Ring Busted

Authorities say "bath salts" and other synthetic drugs were sold in three states from an Allentown-based distributor.

The owner of an Allentown distribution business and the operators of five gas stations and convenience stores in Montgomery and Lehigh counties are among 15 people who have been arrested in connection with an organization that allegedly distributed "bath salts" and other synthetic drugs throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, authorities said Thursday.  Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman said the arrests were the culmination of a year-long investigation involving the Lehigh County District Attorney's office and a number of municipal police forces in both counties.  Ferman described Kenneth Zak Grossman, 52, of Allentown, the owner of J & L Wholesale Distributors, as the "head" of the organization, which authorities …

I wonder if Jaymin G Patel still has his Federal Firearms License to sell full auto firearms on 1317 Hamilton St #B2 Allentown, PA 18102. It should be revoked if he still has it. Hmm, are the ATF even aware of his arrest.   more ›

Pa. Mayors React to Romney's Choice of Paul Ryan for Running Mate

Mayors of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Allentown weigh in on Romney's running mate.

The Democratic National Committee Rapid Response Team issued a release on Sunday featuring statements from three Pennsylvania mayors – Philadelphia's Michael Nutter, Pittsburgh's Luke Ravenstahl and Allentown's Ed Pawlowski – on Mitt Romney's choice of U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as running mate. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter: "If there was any doubt that Mitt Romney was the wrong choice for people in Philadelphia and cities across this country, today’s pick of Paul Ryan as a running mate makes it crystal clear just how wrong his priorities are.  The Romney Ryan budget is an attack on our most precious resource, the very people who make up the fabric of this country: our parents, our children, our soldiers and our seniors.    "Paul Ryan is the…

A Call for Action: The Community Hub

A look into your town and how you can be active

Just about 14 months ago, I sat in a conference room in Allentown, not quite sure what Patch was. Was it a scam? Was it going to make me money? Was it going to jumpstart my journalism career? How will it be used? What will my role be? As I sat through the presentation given by one of the company's regional directors, I was amazed at what I saw. I saw the future. I saw Patch as a way for communities to finally come together - to become engaged. I saw a way for the kids to interact and actually read the news. I saw a way for parents to stay informed about not only the dangers around town and the precautions that they must take, but also about the opportunities right in their own backyards to get involved and make a difference. I saw Patch as…

I live in Spring City and read the Patch every day and am a big fan of your great reporting. Thanks for keeping us updated about what's happening in our area. Just one suggestion: Is it possible to get a bit of advance notice of events? I've noticed (in our Patch as well as others) there's often a report of the event after it's happened. Thanks, Kevin.   more ›
