Proposed Pa. Law Would Cost Owners of Seized Animals

House Bill 82 would require people whose animals had been seized by the authorities to pay for their care pending the resolutions of their cases.

A new proposed state law would charge the owners of seized animals up to $15 per day per animal for the duration of a trial or any other legal proceedings that determined whether the animals would be returned to them. House Bill 82, which passed the State House late last month by a vote of 163-34, is intended to help shelters and other facilities that care for seized animals to recoup their costs. The Humane Society of the United States supports the law.
